Under The Power: Episode 19

Xie Xiao demands to know why Lu Yi believes that the stones are controlled by the tides. Lu Yi snipes back that it’s because he’s smart and used his brain. Uncle Beggar loves Lu Yi’s attitude, saying that Lu Yi reminds him of well.. him when he was younger.

Jin Xia asks Lu Yi what they should do now. Lu Yi says that trying to find the secret passage of the Japanese pirates would be both a waste of time and a waste of energy. Lu Yi suggests that they look for the mechanism that controls the water. Jin Xia finds the first mechanism while Xie Xiao finds the second one.

After activating the mechanisms, the “eyes” of the fish in the yin yang symbol go down. Xie Xiao wonders which one is the one that leads to the sea. After some thought, Lu Yi picks one and jumps down the hole, Jin Xia goes next then Xie Xiao and finally Uncle Beggar jumps down.

Outside at a training ground Master Mao is beating up his followers. When he finishes, Miss Zhai compliments his fighting skills. Master Mao asks Miss Zhai if her young master has decided on a date for their meeting. Miss Zhai says that since Master Mao has come to Yangzhou, her master has already made plans, Master Mao only needs to wait for the good news.

Miss Zhai says that her visit today is to remind Master Mao of something but first she asks if he knows about Lu Yi. Master Mao replies that Lu Yi is the son of the Embroidered Uniform Guard’s commander Lu Ting (so yes, he knows). Miss Zhai says that Lu Yi has been to Longdan Village but Master Mao doesn’t seem to care.

Master Mao says that even if Lu Yi has discovered the infected, he won’t be able to find out the secret about the Dragon Imprisonment Well.. that’s when a minion shows up to report that Dragon Impirsonment Well has been opened. Master Mao’s plan for this is to release all of the infected. He then orders his minions to bring him Uncle Beggar and kill anyone else.

Our little band of heroes come out of cave that leads to a lake. Jin Xia is surprised that their little tunnel led to a lake then asks how Lu Yi knew about it. Lu Yi says that the ancients were wise in controlling floods, in order to discharge the floodwater to the sea they had to utilize underground tunnels, rivers and lakes.

Lu Yi points out that they were able to escape because of it. Jin Xia says that it’s because the black represents danger while the white represented luck. Jin Xia then wonders how they lived since they jumped in the “eye on the black side”. Lu Yi reminds her that the white side has a black eye while the black side has a white eye. Thus they jumped through the blessing in disguise.

Lu Yi says that “good things can come from bad situations”. Jin Xia repeats the phrase and then the two walk off together. Xie Xiao stares longingly after Jin Xia.. so Uncle Beggar waves a hand in front of Xie Xiao’s face. Uncle Beggar says that it’s obvious that Xie Xiao likes Jin Xia but he thinks that Jin Xia likes his Grandson (Lu Yi).

Uncle Beggar rubs it in by saying how good Lu Yi and Jin Xia look together. Xie Xiao insists on deluding himself by saying that Lu Yi and Jin Xia are just regular co workers.

Back in the village Swindler Lan is still tied up. He’s a little cranky because everyone left him behind. He tries to get himself free but that’s when Xiao Xin (the little kid) comes in. Xiao Xin has come to save Swindler Lan and starts untying the swindler’s ropes.

Swindler Lan asks Xiao Xin about his parents but Xiao Xin assures him that they are asleep. Xiao Xin says that he saw his dad and uncles toss a man into the well last night. Xiao Xin tells Swindler Lan that he should leave before he gets tossed into the well like the other poor soul.

Swindler Lan thanks the boy for freeing him but reminds Xiao Xin that he shouldn’t tell his parents that he freed their prisoner. Xiao Xin already knew that though and they both leave the building. That’s when the infected start to attack the village. Swindler Lan hands Xiao Xin over to his mother before trying to find a safe place for himself.

Our favourite couple (and extras) enter the village to see that it’s under attack. The groups hurries to help out the villagers by fighting the infected. Jin Xia notices someone whistling so she tells Xie Xiao to continue fighting while she goes after the flutist controlling them. Jin Xia aims her gun and manages to shoot the bamboo flute out of the flutist’s hands.

Jin Xia satisfied that no more harm can come from that man asks Swindler Lan about how the infected managed to get into the village. Swindler Lan is still upset that they all left him tied up, he says that he could’ve died and that he only saw the infected once he got free. Jin Xia tells him that he would have deserved his fate.. which get a “huh?” Reaction from Swindler Lan.

Now that the infected are no longer a threat, the Japanese pirates start attacking. Some of them have barrels.. Lu Yi quickly starts fighting them. Jin Xia martial skills aren’t that great so she asks Xie Xiao to help Lu Yi out. Xie Xiao refuses to go as he would rather protect Jin Xia. Uncle Beggar goes Lu Yi’s aid.

Lu Yi says that the infected recognize people through scent. Uncle Beggar says that they are in a desperate situation so he warns everyone not to breathe and then he lights one of the blue flowers on fire. It has the desired effect of knocking out the assailants. Jin Xia says that Uncle Beggar is like Swindler Lan, always saving the best things for last.

Uncle Beggar tells everyone it’s safe to breathe again. The village elder wonders how Xie Xiao is still alive since they sacrificed him to the Divine Dragon.. Lu Yi points out that they just saved the lives of the tribe, then asks why they are being treated so harshly.

Jin Xia is annoyed by this so she yells that there are no curses and jinxes, she then demands for Swindler Lan to come over. Swindler Lan tries to get away but Xie Xiao grabs him in a bear hug and carries him over. The village changes their focus to Swindler Lan demanding to know what’s going on.

Swindler Lan says that there truly was an ominous aura at Longdan Village when he did his calculations however he admits that he made up the bit about the curse. Swindler Lan apologizes for causing trouble and implicating innocent people.

The Tribal Chief wonders why his people became infected if there isn’t a curse. While the Tribal Chief is talking, Uncle Beggar notices something about the blood on the ground.

Uncle Beggar says that the infected villagers were poisoned by the essence extracted from the Blue Jade flowers. Uncle Beggar says that once someone has been poisoned they lose all control. Swindler Lan hurriedly agrees with what Uncle Beggar said.

The Tribal Chief then wonders how the Japanese pirates could do something so cruel and more importantly how does Uncle Beggar know about it. Uncle Beggar admits that he created the poison. The villagers instantly demand for his execution but the Tribal leader wants to hear the whole story.

Uncle Beggar tells them that he was captured by the Japanese pirates and forced to grow flowers and make the poison. While Uncle Beggar may have made the poison, he didn’t actually poison any of the villagers. This leads everyone to wonder about who poisoned the villagers. The Tribal Chief has a more important concern, can the villagers be cured? Uncle Beggar says that he doesn’t know but he’ll try.

Let’s return to Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue back in the city. They are walking around minding their own business but all the people they come across start whispering about Shangguan Xi and moving away from them. It turns out the news has already spread about what happened at the Dong Family Water Fort.

Yang Yue says that they have been walking awhile and offers to take her to get some food, maybe something to drink but Shangguan Xi declines his offer. Shangguan Xi tired of the gossip, goes up to one man and demands to know what’s going on. Apparently the Dong Family Water Fort was massacred last night and everyone thinks that Shangguan Xi did it. (She didn’t)

It was over a hundred people killed and the man that Shangguan Xi is interrogating says that it won’t be long before all of Yangzhou knows about it. Then he takes his chance to run away while Shangguan Xi is stunned by the news.

Shangguan Xi hurriedly goes back to her base with Yang Yue hot on her heels. Once she’s at Wu An Clan’s base she asks where the old master is but finds out that he hasn’t returned yet. The treasonous member that sold her out the Dong family apologizes and begs for forgiveness. Shangguan Xi orders that he be punished according the Wu A Gang’s laws.

Shangguan Xi then tells the clan members to wait a moment so she can interrogate the treasonous member. She asks why he thinks that she saved his life and the other captured members. The man says that the members were tied up in a cabin when they heard fighting outside, then silence. When the other members of the Clan came to their rescue, Shangguan Xi had already left and all the members of the Dong Family Water Fort were dead.

Now that Shangguan Xi has learned the story behind the rumours she allows the other members to take away the traitor. Shangguan Xi then dismisses the other members so she can talk to Yang Yue privately. Shangguan Xi asks for Yang Yue’s opinion on the gift she was given. Yang Yue says that there was over a hundred people at the fort and now they are all dead.. it’s truly vicious.

Shangguan Xi admits that although she wanted the Dong Family Water Fort people dead, that’s over a hundred lives and she can’t bear that crime. Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue head over to the Dong Family Water Fort.

Master Mao gets a report that there is a problem.. the green house has been destroyed and so the Blue Jade flowers are gone as well. After this report, Master Mao orders his men to kill everyone except for Uncle Beggar.

Miss Zhai witnesses Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue arrive at the Dong Family Water Fort. Yang Yue says that the scent of blood is strong. Shangguan Xi reminds him that it was over 100 people there so it must have been a river blood.

They kneel down next to one of the bodies as Shangguan Xi asks Yang Yue what he thinks may have caused the wounds on the body. Yang Yue says that in his judgement the wounds were caused by a short sword. They examine another body and find that the wounds there were also caused by a blade. Yang Yue wonders who could have done such a thing.

Miss Zhai shows herself to the two and asks if it really matters who did it. Shangguan Xi can’t believe that Miss Zhai is still alive. Miss Zhai asks her if Lu Yi didn’t inform Shangguan Xi of that, then states that Lu Yi would never boast about something that would affect his reputation.

Shangguan Xi asks Yang Yue to leave so she can talk privately with Miss Zhai. Yang Yue would much rather stay but he listens to Shangguan Xi but before he leaves, Yang Yue tells Shangguan Xi to call him if she needs any help. Once he leaves, Shangguan Xi asks Miss Zhai if she killed the people at the Dong Family Water Fort.

Miss Zhai asks again if it matters who did it. She says that it’s great that someone helped Shangguan Xi to get her revenge? Shangguan Xi asks Miss Zhai if she is trying to frame Wu An Gang for the murder. Miss Zhai points out that Dong Qisheng kept causing trouble for Shangguan Xi, so isn’t she happy that they are gone?

Shangguan Xi says that she doesn’t need help from Miss Zhai since they are no longer friends. Shangguan Xi decides that she should bring Miss Zhai in to the authorities since she’s supposed to dead.. this leads the two to a sword fight. In the middle of the fight Shangguan Xi wants to know why Miss Zhai lied to her.

Miss Zhai says that she was just an inferior actress from a troupe that wasn’t well respected, if she hadn’t become Zhai Lanye then how could she have become friends with someone like Clan Leader Shangguan Xi? Shangguan Xi bluntly states that Miss Zhai is undervaluing herself and underestimating Shangguan Xi as status doesn’t matter to her.

In another break in the sword fight Miss Zhai says that even if Shangguan Xi doesn’t believer her, meeting Shangguan Xi was the happiest moment of her life. The two soon start to cry as they bicker a bit and it’s heart wrenching. Miss Zhai puts her sword down first then Shangguan Xi lowers hers as she tells Miss Zhai that she’s letting her go. Miss Zhai says that Shangguan Xi shouldn’t be so sure about who is letting whom go, then she leaves.

Back in Longdan Village, Uncle Beggar examines those that have been poisoned by the Blue Jade flowers. He tells the village elder that the poison has already reached their brains so even if they can be cured, they won’t live a normal life. He explains that they will have mental deficits. Jin Xia asks if there is another way but Uncle Beggar says that there is only one person that could help but she’s in Maple Col.

Maple Col. is on the border of Yangzhou and Zhenjiang. It’s a place Uncle Beggar named because it was a col full of maple. Just then Lu Yi tells everyone that he hears people coming, so they go to check it out. It’s Master Mao and his people. Master Mao greets Lu Yi saying that he’s heard of him, while Lu Yi in turn greets him.

Lu Yi says that he can’t believe a mere Embroidered Uniform Guard like him has become so famous that Master Mao has come to meet him. Master Mao says that everyone knows the beloved son of Commander Lu. Lu Yi then says that he thought Master Mao was only active along the coast and yet he secretly came to Yangzhou this time, without the Embroidered Uniform Guards knowing, truly Master Mao is very talented.

Master Mao says that he’s just a pirate while Sir Lu’s reputation has been booming. Master Mao then says that Lu Yi has destroyed his Dragon Imprisonment Well, how will Lu Yi compensate him for it? Lu Yi wonders how Master Mao can believe that he has rights to the well. Master Mao says that the secret under the well was discovered by his adoptive father and that even the Shi clan don’t know about it.

Lu Yi says that the Dragon Imprisonment Well is over a 1000 years old, therefore no one has the right to claim it. Lu Yi says that Master Mao is trying to get his hands on everything. Master Mao says that Lu Yi has gone too far. Lu Yi says that he’s always been curious about Big Master Mao as he’s heard that Master Mao has many people that who excel in Ninjutsu (Ninjas, he’s talking about ninjas).

Lu Yi then wonders if Master Mao has studied Ninjutsu since Lu Yi knows he loves martial arts. Master Mao says that it’s clear Lu Yi knows a lot about him, then he admits that he prefers Japanese martial arts to Chinese Martial arts.

Lu Yi tells Master Mao to watch his words, then tells Master Mao that he just hasn’t met a Chinese martial arts master otherwise he would not be impressed by Japanese tricks. Lu Yi orders his friends to protect the villagers and then the fight begins.

There’s plenty of fighting to go around but Lu Yi and Master Mao are in a fight of their very own. They both manage to draw blood from each other but still seem to be evenly matched. One of the villagers gets tossed at Lu Yi, so he protects them but ends up getting stabbed near his shoulder for his trouble.

Jin Xia managed to see the last bit, so she shoots her gun at Master Mao. Jin Xia manages to hit him but Master Mao throws a dagger at her. Lu Yi is faster though so he is able to take the dagger to his back instead of having it hit Jin Xia. (He has 3 wounds now, is he competing with Boromir?)

Master Mao orders for the fire to lit and then for his minions to retreat. Jin Xia does what every First Aid course in the world tells you NOT to do.. and pulls out the embedded object (dagger) from Lu Yi’s back. (Clearly she failed First Aid, remember don’t pull out embedded objects, wait for the paramedics).

While Master Mao said to light the fire, he must’ve meant fuse because it looks more like the village is getting hit by multiple little bombs instead fires. Lu Yi realizes that he was careless as the Japanese pirates had set the bombs during the last attack.

Jin Xia and Lu Yi can only watch as the village gets reduced to rubble. Swindler Lan manages to grab little Xin and take him to safety. Xie Xiao however, gets knocked unconscious by some debris.

In the aftermath of the bombing, Little Xin searches for his parents among the rubble but it appears they have both died. Swindler Lan tells Little Xin that it will be okay, as he will make sure that Little Xin won’t go hungry. (Basically an offer of adoption).

Jin Xia and Lu Yi find Xie Xiao unconscious under a bit of rubble but after a quick check, they realize that he’s alive. Swindler Lan and Little Xin catch up to them. Lu Yi wasn’t looking too good before but now he looks even worse. Swindler Lan does a pulse check, it turns out that Lu Yi has been poisoned!

Swindler Lan can detect the poison from the dagger, but isn’t skilled in healing so he’s useless for an antidote. Jin Xia remembers Uncle Beggar mentioning a woman skilled in healing before the battle. Jin Xia tells Swindler Lan to take Xie Xiao back to the Wu A Gang, then to seek out Yang Yue and report what has happened.

Poor Uncle beggar had been captured by Master Mao. Master Mao isn’t poisoned but at least his injuries seem to cause him some pain.

Xie Xiao wakes up in a room where Shangguan Xi has been sitting by his bedside. When he learns that Shangguan Xi doesn’t know where Jin Xia is, his first thought is to find her. Shangguan Xi tries to talk him out of it. It doesn’t work, instead Xie Xiao points out that he’s useless in the gang because everyone follows Shangguan Xi.

Xie Xiao then says that Shangguan Xi is treating him like a little kid. He also says that he loves Jin Xia and has to find her. Eventually Shangguan Xi gives up trying to get him to stay, she gives him permission to leave.

Roll those End credits! That’s the end of Under The Power: Episode 19!
