NAVIVA

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Medic Alert Canada post. In fact the last time I did was to promote their partnership with Garmin. That however seems to have ended since I haven’t seen any Garmin devices on their website in quite some time.

It seems like Medic Alert Canada will be filling that gap with their new NAVIVA™ system. It appears there will be two types of devices, a watch and a pendant.

I’m a big fan of sports watches myself although I think the pendant like device would be more useful for me as it would be less likely to give us false fall detection positives when I’m cycling down bumpy roads. That’s been known to happen with Garmin sometimes.

I’m a strong believer in GPS S.O.S. Technology but it does make wonder how exactly these are going to work. Some watches like Apple/Samsung for instance piggy back off a cellphone for their SOS system. Garmin uses satellite technology for their In-Reach devices as well as some of their watches.

  • Built-in GPS location support
  • 24/7 live monitoring with escalation to 9-1-1
  • One-press access for assistance
  • Automatic fall detection
  • Two-way voice communication
  • Reliable coverage across Canada and the US

The NAVIVA is definitely an interesting development in helping people with various medical conditions to be more independent. It seems a lot more useful than their previous app (now discontinued). It remains to be seen just how these devices work, but they definitely look promising.

I’ve been using Medic Alert Canada bracelets since High School when I was diagnosed with a bleeding disorder. I later had to update to my information to include my new Autistic status and other changes to my health. There has been quite a few changes to Medic Alert over the years but it’s always provided an invaluable service to those that need it.
