Queen Of Lombard Street
I got this as my Book Of The Month (BOTM) subscription. Normally I would choose a SciFi/Fantasy book but something about this book grabbed my attention. I read the little sample provided on the website.. and it seemed like a good fit for me.
I’m so glad I picked this historical fiction book because it was amazing!
I’m used to books being set in England being closer to Downtown Abbey with mostly white people and maybe a splash of colour. This book gave us a Spanish community and a main character that was half Spanish. The inclusion didn’t stop there as we also got a Welsh person in the main cast. The best part is that there were words from both languages included in the book instead of just English translations and I really appreciated that.
The end of the book also had a list of women in history that helped to inspire the author. There is a little blurb for each woman so the reader can learn more about them. The book did have romance but honestly I felt the story and connections between the characters of Westbrook House to be the heart of the story.
The book technically doesn’t come out until October 20th but I got it early because of my BOTM subscription. I highly recommend it if you like Downtown Abbey or Outlander. There is some spice to this book so I would rate it 18+ to adult. I absolutely loved it though and I’m very happy to have the hardcover for my bookshelf.
