Elantris

This book was published before Mistborn.

This would be the 4th Brandon Sanderson book I’ve read if we don’t count the novella of The Emperor’s Soul.

I still like the Mistborn trilogy more but the characters of this book grew on me. I ended up cheering for them loud enough that I’m glad I wasn’t in library reading it!

This book was definitely interesting because the magic system was broken. Brandon Sanderson continues to deliver a book that makes you care about the characters and because of them, you end up caring about everything else going on.

I love how he always manages to thread hope throughout his books without shying away from some of the darker elements of humanity. While he did write one character a little stereotypically, Brandon has already apologized for it. He also has avoided doing that in future books and warned other authors about doing so.

All-in-all I would definitely recommend this book to other readers, I’m not sure if I would get a physical copy of it though because as much as I enjoyed it, I prefer other books more.
