Blood Price

I bought this ages ago on my Kobo and there used to be a Kindle edition as well.. sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

This series is great which is to be expected from Tanya Huff as she is one of my favourite Canadian authors. However the TV adaptation of her books called “Blood Ties” lacked her sense of humour.

A similar TV series called “Moonlight” had zero relation to her work but captured the essence of her books much better. This is series for those that enjoyed The Dresden Files but wanted female protagonist. Vicki is also disabled by a condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa.

This series came out years ago before cellphones so it’s all answering machines and landlines. (It was published in 1991). It’s also one of the few books that I remember showing a disabled female protagonist.

Did I mention the vampire writes romance novels? While it may not be as much as fun as a vampire running around in a mystery machine with a Scooby-Doo plush like in a Patricia Briggs novel but the vibes are similar.

There is an important scene in this book is that shows how the media influences people. In the case of this book it led to the death of a night nurse because people thought she was a vampire (she always worked night shifts). The newspapers and tabloids whipped up a frenzy to sell papers by making people afraid.. and it got someone killed.
