A Hero Born

This book has many Chinese Drama (Cdrama) adaptations so I was expecting a lot from the novel.
I was very disappointed with it. It started off reasonably well but it was clear that this book would revolve around the male ego rather than character development or a decent plot.
Indeed I would expect this to be tall tale someone told at a local pub rather than a classic novel. There’s plenty of fights but little to make a person actually care about what happens to the characters. I did get some answers at the end but it would have been better if I could have followed the journey of some of the characters instead of time jumping all over the place.
I was promised rich storytelling and complex characters.. I definitely didn’t get any of that. I did get a book that was chore to read and I had to force myself to finish it.
It’s disheartening when other Chinese novels such Cavern of the Blood Zombies by Lei Xu are amazing. Now that book I can highly recommend even though only six of the novels were translated into English (fans have translated the rest).
I will not be adding Jin Yong books to my library or even reading the rest of this series. I will watch the Cdramas of The Legend of Condor Heroes instead because even if the plot falls through the actors/actresses usually make up for it.
