January Roundup- 2026

It’s been awhile since I’ve touched the website. I’ve been grieving because there was a death in the family. The death was completely unexpected because they had Colorectal Cancer and they died within a month of being diagnosed. I was also robbed within a week of attending their celebration of life ceremony.. so yeah last year sucked.

I still don’t have the energy to do recaps, so I’ve been doing little book reviews instead to fill the gap. It’s better to write a little than nothing at all.

The books have been quite healing in many ways. I also got to clear up some of my To Be Read (TBR) list which is always a bonus. I think my favourite book from January was a tie between Heart of the Sun Warrior (1 year after the events of Daughter of the Moon Goddess) and The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea which is a standalone book with no plans for another in the series.

I’m currently reading Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson. It’s nice to read a Canadian author for a change. I’m still on the fence on whether or not I like it. I’m only about 14% in to it though so I’ll see how I feel how about it after I finish.

One thing I have changed in my life is increasing my fibre and protein intake to stay help stay healthy as I’m getting older. Fibre is also known to help prevent Colorectal Cancer.

I’m doing my best to stack the odds in my favour, getting more fibre into my diet and getting my first colonoscopy have been to make sure my body stays healthy. A high fibre diet can help prevent quite a few GI issues, especially when you get older. I’m also using estrogen gel to help with perimenopause symptoms.

I do plan on getting back to recapping, it’s just taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I won’t give any time frame for that because who knows what this year will bring? I’m hoping it’s a lot better than last year although last year set a pretty low bar. I hate to make promises just to have all my energy sucked out again and leave people wondering.

The little book reviews are easier because I don’t have to translate everything, take screenshots and summarize things which is why they are low energy for me and I still get to enjoy sharing something with readers of this little website of mine.

I wish you all to be healthy, happy and safe this year.
