The Missing Piece: 貌合神离

I started watching the drama on Viki and remembered that I had the book in my Kobo library. It’s even in English! In fact it was in the Kobo unlimited section for quite some time (and still is!) which makes it a free read for subscribers.

Don’t worry I’ll post the link to the book as usual at the end of review. I enjoyed this quite a lot however the drama does follow the book quite closely so far.

It’s a good book and you definitely get more details of it, especially when it comes to the spicy moments. I recommend this for an older teen audience and adults not just because of the spice but because of the violence as well. I liked how the book made us think one of the main characters was evil and abusive when it turns out he was the most caring partner one could wish for.

The original love interest however was actually evil and that character deserves to rot. I felt so bad for Mr. Ji’s sister because she was a victim almost as much as Shen Mo. Shen Mo definitely got the shorter end of the stick though because he had to suffer so much for a person that couldn’t give two shits about him. I’ll never understand what the two saw in the guy but the best thing Shen Mo ever did was break up with him.

The book had a few bonus stories after the main story ended which gave the readers some nice after story as well as some flashbacks from a different point of view (PoV) that was really nice to have. I hope the drama includes some of those but I haven’t watched the latest episodes yet so it’s possible they may have included some of it.

If you do enjoy the show, that you definitely want to read this book, and if you like a dark BL story than this should be up your alley.
