This is the first book in Holly Black’s Modern Fairy Tale trilogy. This is a dark series with mature themes so I would recommend it for older teens.

I hate it when characters smoke, it doesn’t matter if it’s in books, movies or television. Smoking is just plain gross and smells absolutely disgusting. It’s unfortunate that the main character is a smoker, and I don’t like the prank they pulled at the beginning of the book either.

This story is dark, like old fairy tales. Despite that though, it’s an enjoyable quick read. There is a romance there that starts off a bit rocky but we’ll see how it goes. Honestly this was a re-read for me but it had been so long that I didn’t remember the story very well.

If you need a dark story that is geared to an older teen audience, then this book would be for you. It’s not one of my favourite books but I do enjoy it.
