The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is the first book of the Stormlight Archive and one of many books in the Cosmere universe.
This isn’t my first Sanderson book, I actually started my journey into the Cosmere with the novella The Emperor’s Soul. After that I was hooked, I went on to read the Misborn trilogy and Elanrtris.
This book has a wonderful cast of characters which I’ve come to expect from Brandon. Sometimes I got a little impatient with him as I would be more interested in Bridge Four and present day Kaladin than some of the other storylines. However there were occasions where it would be the other way around. I loved all the characters though so I didn’t mind when my flow got interrupted.
Every character has an important piece of the puzzle, even if they don’t realize it or even know about the big plot. I’m a bit of sucker for these kinds of stories, drawing individual threads into one big tapestry is totally my jam. Brandon Sanderson does a wonderful job of making you feel connected to his characters and their world.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, as I’m very excited to see what happens next. I can see why so many people recommend it, and I’m glad that I finally got around to reading it!
