Daughter of the Moon Goddess

I just finished reading Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan. It’s a good book, the beginning gives me a bit of Cinderella vibes.

This is because our female protagonist comes from well off family and then through circumstances beyond her control she has to toil away for some horrible people until a prince rescues her.

The prince didn’t do anything fancy, he just reminded her of who she was outside of her current job. This lead to her seizing an opportunity to rescue not only herself but her mother as well. A complaint I read about the book was that the Moon Goddess wasn’t featured much in the story… well duh that’s because it’s about her daughter. I thought the book title gave that away but apparently not.

The book reads like a Chinese Drama (Cdrama) so fans of shows like Ashes of Love (AoL) should be familiar with this type of world. However I found this to be much more enjoyable than Ashes of Love. I liked Xingyin a bit better for starters. The book most strongly reminded me of Ashes of Love out of all the Cdramas that I have watched.

I still think the Prince of the Demon Realm got a raw deal and while I strongly disagree with some of his decisions, I do understand them. I’m hoping we get more of him in the next novel and even Xingyin doesn’t end up with him, I hope he gets a happy ending.
